Goals:

To provide students with a comprehensive eight-year band program centered around

developing the complete musician.

  • To prepare students to be outstanding citizens by teaching them essential life skills such

  • as communication, creative thinking, and commitment.

  • To use music as a platform to discuss social inequality.

  • To make music accessible to all students in ISD 701.

 The purpose of the Hibbing Band Program is to inspire students to become lifelong appreciators of music.

Concert Band

The Hibbing Concert Band is the premier band at Hibbing High School. This group meets 1st

period and consists of 10-12th grade students. Each year, the Concert Band performs in four

concerts, plays at the Spirit of Unity parade, and participates in the Region 7AA Large Group

Contest. As a member of this group you will also get to play in the pep band at home football,

volleyball, hockey and basketball games, as well as travel to any state competitions.

Marching Band

The Bluejacket Marching Band is a 6-week summer program designed to take your playing to

the next level! In marching band you will learn to put music on the move as we march in

parades performing exciting music. You will compete against other bands all across the state

and go on trips to Valleyfair and Wisconsin Dells.

Jazz Band

The Bluejacket Jazz Band focuses on learning styles of music such as rock, swing, pop, and

Latin jazz. This group meets twice a week during 2nd lunch and is open to any 9-12th grade

student. Common instruments include trumpet, trombone, saxophone, guitar, bass guitar, piano,

and drums. This group performs at the annual Prizm Concert and various holiday performances in December.

Color Guard

The Bluejacket Colorguard is the visual component of the marching band. Any student in 8-12th

grade is available to join this group. In addition to performing with the marching band in the

summer, there are various performance opportunities during the school year such as pep fests.
